Yesterday one of my laying pullets was breathing very hard and struggling to lay an egg this morning there was no egg she has her tail down and is very droopy I think she's egg bound please help what can I do to help her we're going to soak her in some Epsom salt water and I'm giving her some oyster shell in a little bit of mashed but she doesn't want to eat it she's just standing there with her wings and tail all drooping and her eyes closed

I keep a jar of calcium citrate on hand. Pop one in her mouth (they're huge, but she won't have any problems with it). I do this every day till they are laying good eggs again. It will help her pass the egg, if that is indeed the issue. It will also help if she is laying soft shelled eggs.

Okay thank you, we borrowed some of this from a friend and crushed it up and put it on some egg with the egg shells crumbled in it, she ate half of it she is standing like a penguin now so I'm very sure she is actually egg bound. I brought her home with one of her friends in a dog crate and have her in a dark room right now we're going to put her in warm Epsom salt water 3 times a day and we bought some liquid calcium on Amazon that's coming in tomorrow. Hopefully she'll pass the egg🙏🙏🙏

When we had this happen at thebird rescue i used to volunteer at, sometimes we would take olive oil and gently massage the vent and abdomen. Dont push!! Offer a warm pack to rest on, warm, not hot and use humidity in your favor.. A warm wet towel or a dip in warm epsom salt water. You might try magnesium flakes in warm water also. Provide calcium and plenty to drink.

Soooo....what happened I felt her abdomen and no more lump. We soaked her in warm Epsom salt water and have been giving her calcium and magnesium in scrambled egg with the egg shells in it. I also put some oil on her abdomen but there is no egg in the cage what happened did it go further up? Our farm is 2 miles from our house so she is at our home in a dog crate with her friend. She has been making a ugh ugh ugh noise mixed with a little peep noise

Unfortunately the pullet passed away this this morning. I am so devastated and crying while I write this she was one of my first for chicks. This would have been her first egg she will be greatly missed and always loved
RIP Lucy, WE LOVE YOU.
The last pic is her (far left) cuddling with her sisters it was the last time she got to sleep with them. They were always together I can tell they miss her too. She was so sweet I just miss her so much. My dear Lucy I wish I could have saved you!😪😔

I'm sorry for your loss.
At only 11 weeks old, I would be looking at something else besides egg binding as the cause of her decline. Having a necropsy through your state lab would give you the best answers.
You can look up your lab here https://www.metzerfarms.com/poultry-labs.html

How long had you had her?
11 weeks I am thinking that she got stepped on by one of my larger hens because when I found her she was breathing very hard and when she passed away her comb was getting Blacker in color like if she wasn't getting enough oxygen. Unfortunately we buried her already 😔

I'm sorry to hear that.

A comb will turn dark if they are having trouble breathing.
I suppose getting stepped on might do that, you never know.

Okay thanks that's what I thought. I was at the farm when it must have happened because an hour earlier I was feeding them treats and they were all doing fine and then I left to go do other chores and when I came back to make sure the coop was all locked up that's when I found her breathing hard. I feel so bad and miss her so much she was such a sweetie I know the Four Sisters she grew up with miss her too
