I have a hen with a prolapsed vent (discovered this afternoon) and just now when I felt for the egg I can feel it but it seems broken inside and she is straining to pass it (it doesn't seem to be moving).
What should I do?

I found this little bit of info. I hope it helps you out.

Egg binding is a problem when a particularly large egg becomes lodged in the hen's vent. This problem is not very serious, but a hen can be hurt if the situation is not fixed immediately.

Simply lubricate your finger and insert it into the hen's vent (or ask someone else who has done it before). Gently squeeze/massage the hen's abdomen, easing the egg out with a slow, steady pressure. If the egg refuses to come out, you should carefully break the egg and remove it piece by piece. This may take a while, but don't become impatient.

Be careful not to harm hen's delicate innards with the sharp broken eggshell pieces. After the hen's vent is cleared, you should clean it if the hen's insides have been lacerated.

Prolapse is when the pink tissue from inside a hen's vent is pushed to the outside, maybe after an unusually large egg was laid. Carefully push the tissue back into the hen and apply hemorrhoidal cream. Isolating the hen while she's healing might help, especially since exposed wounds can tempt other chickens to peck at her.

If you keep her in a dark place for a few days, it should stop her from laying, which should give her a better chance to heal.

This was just posted a few hours ago-This is what I found

"Let her sit in some warm water to help the area relax. Keep her in a small cage indoors if you can. I have given mine Tums for the calcium. Lubricate her vent with vaseline. If she is eating and drinking that's a great sign. Good Luck!!!"

Thank you! hoosiersphynx that was great information on a first post, thankyou!
She passed the egg, thank goodness. It had a partially broken and poorly formed shell, but was still basically intact. whew.
She still has a prolapsed vent but it is not as extreme. I've got her in a separate cage for monitoring/ observation. She isn't too impressed with me, didn't like the attention, warm water rinsing etc, but I definitely think it has helped.
