Hi I have 2 hens and one of them has just been caught eating its own egg. The other one joined in eating but no damage has come to her eggs. The main egg eater lays its egg in the nest box pecks a hole in it and takes it out into the run and eats the whole egg including the shell. She has been known for laying thin egg shells but I have not had an issue with them before. Anyway I have tried golf balls and filling her eggs with mustard but she will still eat it. Has any one had an issue like this before and if so what did you do?

Are you able to redo the nest boxes and make them the roll out style so she can't reach the eggs?

Not really no because it is all part of one wooden structure but I thought the same thing

That is a really bad habit that chickens can pick up. The best way, is to go to your feed store and buy crushed oyster shell. It will harden their egg shells and make their craving go away.
