Please help me! My chickens are eating their eggs! They won't stop and it's spreading to the whole flock. I NEED HELP NOW PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I went out to do the "chicken chores" I saw my Red Sex-Link running around with an egg shell in her mouth! My Ameraucana, Bananas, has been caught red handed eating eggs! HHHHEEEELLLLPPPPPPP MMMMMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try putting golfballs or something that resembles an egg in the so they can peck at it and not break it open and sometimes it hurts, that may help.

If they lay in nest boxes, look into making some with slanted floors, there are some tutorials on here somewhere. Basically after they lay the egg, it rolls behind a flap so they can't get them easily and you can collect from the backside.

I'd also isolate the egg eaters if possible while you try and resolve this, so the others don't start catching on.

I do have fake eggs in the nests and have isolated the egg eaters so far. I don't know how I could make slanted nest boxes for I don't have enough room.

I have heard of others filling an empty whole egg shell with hot mustard. One peck and they are put off. The egg has to be blown first (hole in the shell at each end and the contents blown out) and then filled with the mustard. I am an Aussie and we would use Masterfoods Hot english Mustard - Tabasco might have the same affect.

Just a suggestion that I have heard of others using with success.

They eat the WHOLE egg!!! Shell and all! They eat both. One of my Americaunas lays an egg I call a "lemon" egg; it looks like a lemon! It is soft shelled but I never see them eat those. It gets started when a chicken steps/pecks one and they all go crazy!

Mine will eat any eggs that break or are soft shelled, they have never just ate all the eggs. I am not sure what to tell you unless you go gather eggs as often as possible so they don't have a chance to eat the eggs.
