I have 20 eggs in an incubator. Six of them went through the mail, and were pretty roughed up -- 2 eggs broken, and saddle shaped air sacs on the remaining. The other eggs are either my own, or were picked up by car and did not go through the mail. For most of the eggs, this is day 15 of incubation -- Lockdown should begin Tuesday night at 11 pm. However, some of the eggs were put in later -- we had to rehome my fabulous rooster, and i put a 6 additional eggs into the incubator a week later than the original, on the off chance that I will get a viable female chick with a staggered hatch.

Anyway, here we are right on the onset of day 15 and one of the saddle air sac eggs is moving around wildly. My question: what do I do -- should I turn off the automatic turner at this juncture so that the chickens can position themselves?

Thanks for any advice.

The others are a range -- I basically took all the eggs after the rooster left, dated them, and put them in the incubator the day after they were laid. I also have 3 bantam eggs that are on day 13 -- 2 days later than the shipped eggs.

I unplugged the turner and will hand turn all but the shipped ones. The shipped ones are now positioned sideways with the largest part of the saddle air sac up.
