My lap chicken (shy 4 mth frizzle Pekin pullet- Ella) started limping a few days ago but could not tell which leg she was favoring. When I checked her ONE LEG is DIFFERENT - WIDER w LARGER JOINT BUT does not look swollen. I compared legs to the cockerel that may be a brother. Her left leg is slimmer & shorter but looks closer to his. The right joint & bone looked thicker. (If it was a diet deficiency wouldn’t both legs be affected?)

2 days ago I removed a clump of dirt from left leg. I put her in a tote to observe & let her rest overnight. Yesterday I let her walk on bed & she seemed better.
Last night she started holding up right leg after she had gotten on edge of tote. There was smooth swollen bump on bottom of foot (does not look like bramblefoot). She is still limping today but not as bad.

I have lost 1 dog (cancer) & 2 cats (long tragic story) & have to give away my 3 fun roos – don’t want to lose Ella. Can’t afford expensive treatment but am at home on disability & can give her plenty of TLC.

Questions from Sticky
1) Frizzle Pekin (bantam cochin) 4 mth old pullet
2) Condition – Limping
3) One leg thicker; Swollen bottom of foot
4) What happened: nothing that I know of
5) Feed: medicated crumbles/scratch; Eating and drinking a little less than normal, eats all hand fed treats – cheese, shredded fish, fresh veg, fruit,
6) Poop - some normal some pasty some runny
7) Treatment – cleaned feet, keeping separate in tote (move to room I’m in)
8 ) Treatment intent - treat myself, take to vet if I can find one but can’t afford extensive treatment
9) trying to get picture - camera broken
10) housing – 9’x9’ atrium; bedding pine on top of ground, covered w raises 3’ x 1 ½’ tote

It sounds very much like Bumblefoot. The bump is the clincher. Can you try treating it as though is is Bumblefoot and remove that bump?

Or if you want to try soemthing less invasive first, how about a soak in some epsom salts and after it softens, check for something in there....sliver, thorn?

COULD SWOLLEN AREA BE A BRUISE?
& CAN BUMBLEFOOT COME FROM A BRUISE?

It is completely smooth & same color as foot - wasnt there until after she jumped up on the edge of tote. she had been in tote or on my towel covered bed.

Soaking is a good idea since it is supposed to help joints too (have plenty for my problems) cant find any info on one thickened leg.

tried search for HOW to SOAK in EPSOM SALTS - what is best way?

she was shivering last time we checked her feet & dont want to stress her any more than necessary

THANKS
