Okay.. here goes everything lol..
So i was in the forest by my house walking my dog when out of no where there is this explosion of feathers screeching (scared the life out of me)and i look over and my dog is attacking something i run over to check it out and my dog bagged himself a bird. Unfortunately this bird was sitting on a nest that in all the mayhem got basically distroyed. When i looked at it further my dog broke most of the eggs in the nest. Except 3
I didn't know what to do so i took off my socks and carefully put the eggs in the sock in a way that wouldn't break them and took them home to see if i could at least hatch them cause i figure it would be a waste of life if i left the eggs.. anyways long story short that was about 2 and a half weeks ago.. this morning i could hear lil peeps coming out of one of the eggs and now i think one of the eggs are hatching there are little cracks aswell..

3 questions

1st. How long should it take for a chick to fully come out of the egg and should i help?

2nd. How do i figure out what they are?

3rd. What do i feed it and how should i go about raisng them?

help would be greatly appreciated:D

It can take as long as 24 hours for them to hatch completely. Don't help them by pulling them from the shell. They have to struggle in order to absorb the yolk sack. Mist them with water if the membrane appears dry, but don't drown them.

I'm sure you can post pictures & someone will be able to tell you what they are.

I would feed them moist chicken starter.

That's about all the help I can be. I'm kinda new to this too.

Good luck! And congrats!!

Get pictures ASAP.
If these are altricial birds they need be hand-fed. Luckily, if it was nesting on the ground and the eggs are rather large, it's likely to be a precocial bird, meaning the babies are born able to eat. If there are wild chickens / turkeys around, that's what you might have. Tell us what the mother looked like.

lol okay thanks.. yea ill go take a pic of the hatching egg so you guys/gals can get an idea its about 4-5cm maybe light brownish beige. the nest was on the grown and the bird my dog killed looked brown and bigger than a normal flying bird and brown ps. it lived in the forest so if that helps??? ill post pix in like 5 mins

That doesn't sound like a chicken.

Can't wait to see the pic.

At the top of the page is a bar with links. Select "Uploads". Browse for you pic on your computer and upload it. When it is finished, it will give you 2 links. I always just copy and paste the bottom link into your next message. Hope you figure it out, I'm dying to find out what type of egg you've got there!
