HELP!! First time incubating! And need to konw how to succesfuly hatch

WELL I HAVE DECIDED TO HATCH A FEW CHICKS!
i HAVE HATCHED CHICKS FROM A HEN BEFORE AND THATS ABOUT IT
I HAVE AN INCUBATOR
i CANDLED THE EGGS AND THEY SEEM TO BE OK APART FROM 1 WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE A BLACK RING IN THE CENTRE "IS THIS OK!"
i KNOW THE BASICS
I HAVENT STARTED YET

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO HATCH A BUNCH OF FLUFFY CHICKS !!

The black ring one is no good. Sorry but that one died.
You will need to keep your incubator set between 99.5-100.5 I usually try to keep mine at exactly 100.5. You don't want it to go too 102 or you could fry them. You also don;t want it to go under 99.5 or the chicks will go underdeveloped and die. as for humidity everyone has there own humidity they like to try I like to keep mine at 30%. They hatch out in 21 days. You need to turn them at least 3 times a day 5 times a day is better. the last 3 days you stop turning them and raise the humidity level till it almost looks like its raining in your bator. I like to get mine to 65%-72% seems to work good for me. I have had great luck this way I use. Mine always hatch out a day early leaing no yolk or blood inside the egg.

I'm new to incubating like you - but have had 3 goes at it.

I agree that the one with a ring is gone.....but unless it is mouldy or smelly you can always keep it in there - my thory is that i am no expert and i can be wrong about eggs, so i tend to leave them.

I keep my heat at a constant 37.5 degrees and humiditidy of 40-50% for 19 days - then stop turning the eggs and raise the humidity to 50-60%, however the humidity and tempertaure are affected by where you are - wherere your incubator is, how constant the tempertaure is around it etc etc.

I am in the uk, so there is no outside humididty at the moment - so i have it set higher than someone in a humid area might.

The thing is to have fun with it and don't worry is 100% don't hatch.

I hatched 75% last time and a real pro over here told me that was a fab hatch rate, for a hobby breeder like me.


Also when they hatch make sure you keep them warm enough - our heat lamp instructions said to have it a minimum of 1meter above the chicks - but this wasn't warm enough and they suffered from being cold until i lowered it.

If they bunch up really tight they are too cold - if they spread out more they are happy.

I've only had two privious hatches. One was in a stil air LG and had 100% hatch rate and the second was in the same with bantam shipped eggs with a 0% hatch rate so don't know if I'd be much help either... In the 100% hatch they were fresh local eggs and were large eggs. I did it the old fashioned way and only added a tiny bit of water if the outside humidity was under 30%... Then when they were in lock down I went up to 50-60% and they all hatched fine with one that got ziplocked but still survived... Now for the 0% hatch... I kept the humidity at 40-45% and then 60% at hatch. I also had a couple of issues with temps up and down and one time were the humidity jumped to 80% for a day...only one chirped at day 21 and never pipped. I looked at it and looks like he drowned, other stopped developing at 1-2 weeks... Maybe you can learn from my mistake... Never put wet clothes or any more moisture in if your humidty is close to correct... I think I tend to over do things and that is what happended to the second hatch... I now am using a Brinsea Eco 20 and just started my eggs last night. It would help us tell you exactly what to do if you told us what bator you are using... Thanks and good luck..
