help for a newbie! sick hen

I am not sure what country you are in, so products may varie a lot. In Ireland the best lice and mite powder is probably smite, and the only antibiotic you can get for poultry is tylan,

You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine, lets just agree to disagree on this one
Of course. I didn't challenge your opinion, I pointed out the reasons behind mine when you challenged it. Doesn't mean either of us is not entitled to their opinion. If you recall, in your post, you said 'in response to the post above' --- which was mine of course ---and then you challenged several points of it and asked questions which I replied to. You were not victimized, nor attacked, neither was your opinion. There was no disrespect employed nor intended.

The information is freely available though, pharmaceutical drugs are NOT just 'concentrates'.

I don't mean to offend the naturalist who also responded on this site I'm just saying I agree with irishhenman here. We are all in titeled to our own opinions and for chooks4life please don't reply with how evil the pharmaceutical company's are! I respect your opinion please respect mine.I believe there is a time for natural remedy and a time for chemical remedy. So to chooks4life let us also agree to disagree and leave it at that. This is not a place for arguments or rants. Let's just say I have my opinion and you have yours and PLEASE leave it at that! Now back to the bird. I really do urge you to treat her soon before the infestation gets out of hand. I hope this helps and wish you the best! Good luck and God bless!

Hey, whoa, you just made most of your response about me when I wasn't even talking to you, lol. I do respect other's opinions, if you read through my post I did say to use chemicals or antibiotics if that's what the thread poster feels is necessary. I can't offer advice in that area is all. If you'd read my post you'd see I said most of the people involved in pharmaceuticals are well intentioned, not 'evil' and I didn't dismiss it out of hand... You've profiled me incorrectly. But that's what tends to happen as soon as anyone says 'natural' or 'pharmaceutical' or 'herb' ... Whatever, we're all entitled to our opinions. I hope someone can offer a suggestion as to what antibiotic to use for the thread poster. Anyway, since that's the direction the thread's taking and I don't have any experience there, I won't be posting again here, unless someone directly addresses me or my posts.

Best wishes to all and their flocks. Nobody's trying to make anyone feel bad about their choices, we do what we can with what we have and know.

After reading through this thread , I had to go back to the start and reread the symptoms. I m not sure that antibiotics are required. Can you tell us more? Do they have breathing difficulties ?
This could be any number of things. Cocci, gleet or even egg bound are just a few. While I use antibiotics myself, they would not be the correct treatment for these conditions. IMHO worms & lice would not respond to antibiotics.
