Help! Found Bird! What is it?

I think it looks more like a pheasant chick too. Keep us posted as it develops! It will be exciting to see exactly what it turns out to be.

If you have a chick that you dont mind sacrificing, you can put it with the little bugger!

I have NO idea what it is, never had ducklings, pheasants or turkeys of my own.

Another Pix, The dumb thing doesn't eat the food however I had to remove it's toe from it's mouth???

you think maybe worms would be ok or do I have to make a special trip to where ever they carry meal worms?

OH and another thing, it has not pooped?

ivan3, that is what I told my DH when he called me and told me. but how far away, what consists in being quarantined? Right now it's in a bin above my chicks who are in a big box. It has the heat 85ish in there.

Looks to me like it's been debeaked. The beak seems to be blunt on both the upper and lower beak. It's really hard to tell from the pics, but I would guess it's a bronze turkey poult. Does it have a snood bud just above the beak? It definitely is not a duck or goose.

Whether it's a pheasant or a turkey, feed it a high protein feed, preferably 25 - 28% if available. Gamebird starter is great for either turkeys of pheasants.

In reviewing the first pic posted, I see that the snood bud is visible. The bump above the beak is not an egg tooth, it's the snood bud. Definitely a turkey. Seems to have been debeaked, and must have come from a commercial hatchery. How you got it is the big mystery. Do you have neighbors who like to play little jokes on you?

To be strict on quarantine, it should be elsewhere and handwashing before handling chooks. I'm pretty sure someone will object to this but, if there is no direct contact (particularly droppings/dander) and you wash your hands after contact, you'll have minimized chances of transmission somewhat (better to be in another room). Unless we all invest in a level 4 containment lab, protection is a matter of degree.

Mealworms, little moths, ants, etc. (what this guy/girl would be getting from mama). You can also hard boil and crush an egg and see if it will eat that. I like mealworms because they aren't carrying any odd travelers (fine after it gets bigger and the immune system develops sufficiently to feed earthworms without too much worry).

You might start a thread over in the Other Poultry/Pheasants-Chukar subject line and post up a full body pic. They'll be able to confirm or deny

Ed: hope I'm wrong and will be seeing you in the turkey subject line real soon now...

Look more like an egg tooth, it looks like it's to fall off.

I'm not able to get it out from under this light it's the only light I have. We've been washing , washing, washing!!

I had to remove it's toe again and now my son had to remove it again. Dumb a**,

I'm not liking this dumb thing anymore, It's a hinder, of course I thought the same thing about my other bird and it's better now.
