Little bit of poo. Oh and it still has a little bit of cord. And I went and got meal worm but only 3 dz. I think I need more. He loves them and is already getting stronger. YAH!

I found 2 very young turkey poults in my backyard a couple months ago. Someone obviously dropped them off at my house because they were in one of my empty chicken cages. I don't know who... never figured that one out. The only thing I can figure is that someone found them and knew I raised chickens.

They both died by the end of day. I was super sad. I really wanted some more turkeys since I only had one hen left.

Then today, on the way to take my daughter to football practice, I found my lone hen dead on the side of the road. She was hit by a car. It looks like she was on her way to one of her favorite nesting spots. (all of my farm birds free range.)

Hope you have good luck with this baby!

Take care,

Tami

I had to raise mine alone. It was fine when it was a week old or so but they grow so darn fast that they will outgrow most chicks. It was really beating up the chicks i had it with originally. It did fine by itself. I feed all my chicks a medicated turkey starter/grower. It is 28% protein. I started out feeding it meal worms several times daily until it started eating the crumbles. I really raised him as I would raise any of my chicks with the exception of not handling it as much, I wanted to release it eventually. It did wonderful. When it was a couple months old I let it free range my backyard hoping to someday let it free. We have several flocks of wild turkey coming through my property daily. He stayed around for a while and then made his way back to the wild. I am hoping he is still alive and well. As far as keeping a wild turkey, not sure about your state but believe in my state it is illegal unless you are a licenced wildlife person. Best of luck.

Gosh that little thing is cute! Whatever happens, good luck with it and I hope it becomes an adult. Wild or not, it should be given a chance, good luck!!

dumb cat knocked the bin off the counter in the bathroom. The chick is still breathing but it is grasping maybe. It opens it's mouth real wide. It is laying there. I'm hoping it's neck isn't broke. before this happened it was eating, drinking, pooping, walking around drunk like but walking around. Yes there was and is a wire cover on the bin. The cat did not "get" it. but still it hit the floor probably with bin right behind it.

Maybe you have a flock of wild turkeys nesting near by? I know they're thick in Minnesota so I assume they're in WI too..

I grew up in Wisconsin ... when I was young, wild turkeys were a bit of a rare sighting, but last time I went back to visit my parents, I saw wild turkeys all over the place. My mom mentioned that there are so many that they are becoming a bit of a nuisance.

You might have had one nesting near your house, and never noticed it. They can be hard to spot when they want to be.

Some people are thinking it's a domestic turkey, any chance someone knew you kept chickens and left it on your porch?

OTOH, if you have a "bird dog" it might have brought you a present. I have known people with Golden Retrievers who had to watch their dogs around chicks and ducklings, because the dogs liked to pick the chicks up and carry them around (often to the detrimient of the chick).

Good luck with it!
