We just had a fox in our coop. I think he took a chicken.

We moved our older dog to the coop but what can we do to keep them away?
Do we need a dog there full time?

We also have a few goats and pigs, will they need the protection of a dog as well?

We have had coyotes and foxes in the area. but never on proporty. I am not sure which it was, but I am guessing a fox.

Well we have 20 scared chickens and one that was hurt pretty bad. maybe one or two gone.

I recently had a problem with hens disapearing off the nest early in the mornings while sitting on biddies. It turned out to be a fox, actually two foxes. They were shot a month or so apart. I hated to kill them but they were wiping out my birds.

Are you in a area where you can shoot them? If not check with your local authorities about trapping them because they will be back for a meal at your chickens expence.

While you are waiting you should predator proof your coop so that the fox can not get in. Good luck with your problem and let us know how it turns out.

My coop is predator proof as much as possible. He climbed a tree post to get in it.
I know this because the fence is bent way down and feathers on both sides.
Its too dark at night to shoot so thats out of the question.
at least for now.
I did read that putting human hair or pee around the coop "may" keep them away.
But I may just have to get a dog to protect them.
