Hello all, I chose this category cause I thought it was the closest.
I am going to start shipping chicks. I made friends with a great person in MS so 13-14 hours from my area which is South Florida.
I have been getting ready for a while and getting very nervous cause I want things to go great.
I ordered shipping boxes the 25 count size from Duncans Poultry with the Excelsior pads. The box seems sturdy enough but the lid just fits on top no way to staple it down. Do I tape the top in place?
Should I leave all the holes open it's a hot time of year? South Fl to MS?
Should I also add a heat pack so they can have a choice hot or cool?
A/C killed a bunch sent to me.
The NPIP slip goes on the inside or outside of box?
Place ship to info with hold at PO on box with Phone Number On the top?
Box is so small how am I going to get this all on there
going to add grow gel with some feed mixed in and a piece of cucumber
How soon does that grow gel, well gel up? I want to do as much as I can ahead of time.
Someone said I have to tape up the entire bottom, I have never received a box like that do you? With all the side holes what is the differance?

Any other tips for me, I have to tell you I am freaking out a little:bow. My babies are going for a ride!

Thanks

Most places use a band. I would tape it if you don't have bands.

Check the weather along the route. They will be colder at night and in some of the facilities so don't overdo it. Drafts can be deadly. Unless it's stuffed full and over 100 degrees they aren't likely to overheat.

I put the NPIP slip folded into a little ziplock (snack size usually) and then tape that to the box on all four sides. No one even checks it. I just have the NPIP number and receiving address showing.

No need for cucumber for babies, and it might knock into them anyway.

Write the number on the box in case the labels get torn off somehow.

Good luck!

Thank you for your quick reply so tape the NPIP form in a plastic bag to the side of the box?

So use the heat pack and I should shield the air holes maybe with some extra coastal hay? All the air holes seen to be open now.

I’m sure I have more questions, tomorrow I work on familiarizing myself with the v9 form aka NPIP.

Thanks so very much....
