Hi. My gander is about 4 1\2 months old. I noticed today that when he poops he make a large fart sound Different than normal) then shoots very watery mostly clear poop. After that I noticed there is something hanging out. It does go back in most of the way but is still hanging out. It is a red orange color and hangs out about an inch and a half after using the bathroom. It then shrinks back down to about an inch and a half. He is a white Chinese gander. Any ideas on what's going on? I have been trying for pictures but not successful yet with that. Also, I apologize in advance if I have not posted this correctly. Still learning. :/

Ok So I am guessing it is his manhood hanging out. First time hanging out with geese not all penned up. They are like our little dogs and have the run of the property.

lol, it won't be his manhood because he's not a man. ;)

It may be his penis, but making loud fart noises is very unusual and it's also possible that it's his bowel hanging out, i.e. prolapsing under strain. For him to make a loud fart noise indicates he is straining quite hard in the first place. This is not good, obviously. Why is he producing such an amount of gas in the first place? You could try giving him some charcoal tablets or powder, nonsweetened ones, but he may have something seriously wrong with him.

Best wishes with him.

Ok. Thank you. I think I will try to find some today. I hope it is nothing serious. My geese are some of my buddies that come running every time I open the door. I will keep you guys updated.

You can buy Activated Charcoal capsules at Walmart, CVS etc it's in the antacid isle. open a capsule and put int his drinking water sure hope it helps, sounds like he may have eaten something that hasn't agreed with him.

Hi. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. It's been a hectic week! I ended up taking him to the vet on Friday. He had a prolapsed penis. We put it back in again but it just kept coming out. Today I decided to just let it die off on its own and then trim it if needed. Poor guy. I wish I would have just left him alone now. He is doing really good though. He's such a good boy. I have been taking him in and washing it three times a day with soap and warm water and keeping neosporn on it, mostly to keep flies from bothering him. I went ahead and gave them charcoal in their water because I figured it would not hurt. It seems to have helped him not strain so hard when he goes and less upset stomach. Thank you all for your help.

Well don't hear of a prolapsed penis that often in geese more so with ducks but thank goodness he is doing better. Be careful and not over do with the charcoal because it can constipate if given too much.
