HELP!!!!guinea was attacked by hawk, head upside down

My guinea was attacked today by a hawk, she dosent look hurt and I have brought her inside to keep her warm but her head and neck are turned upside down I dont know if this is just shock or if her neck is broken,
although I can strighten her neck out. It happened at 2 this afternoon. Can someone help PLEASE.

Hoping this is not a broken neck, but only torticollis (twisting of neck head in some odd position or other) due to a less than mortal injury. You can lift the head and you can feel some resistance against your hand as it moves into the unusual positon?

If this is what the problem is and you can get food and water into your guiena there might be a successful recovery.

We got a call from our neighbor's daughter (parents out of town) two summers back. Their Black Spanish tom had been mauled by a fox, but she was too "scared" of the tom to touch it. The tom's head was pretty much dangling from a neck that evinced muscle tonicity on only one side (lift the head and neck and feel pressure against my hand). We cleaned him, used twenty five stitches to close the lacerations (thought that the puncture wounds would eventually kill him from resulting infection).

We filled a baster with sugar water, lifted his head just enough to prevent drowning him and he was able to drink it.
Neighbors returned the following day. I'd see the poor guy hunkered down with his twisted neck, most days, when we'd drive past. about five months later he was crossing the ten acres of woods seperating our properties and, in fine fettle, went about sparring with our toms.

It might take some time and quite a bit of effort.

well she is still alive. When I move her head she does resist, her eyes are always closed and one side of her face is a little swollen. I sure hope she gets better soon. Thanks for the info.

Just make sure you give her water and food (we gave Gamebird Starter to our neighbor to mush up and feed the tom).

I do not know what happened to my Mrs. Chicken, a Golden Sebright, but yesterday, I let everyone out of the coop for some sun in the afternoon, (we finally had a warm day), and she didn't look right... her neck seemed out of position, just not right and she was a bit lethargic and pale. An hour later when they were all going back in, she seemed better her color was better too, and she was eating but still something with the neck. I thought maybe she was just cold.
Went out to the coop early this am and Mrs. Chicken was laying on the coop floor. She was gone. Still something wrong with her neck.
I wonder if maybe she didn't fall or get pushed off the roost and hurt her neck or head. Like I wrote her neck doesn't feel right but I am not an expert, nor will I have a necropsy done. Any ideas or similar experiences?

Sorry about Mrs. Chicken.

Without actually seeing the injury occur, it is hard to know. Without dissection, even more difficult to rule it out.

There are more common causes for wry/crook neck. The rapid progression would suggest acute injury but, again, we are in the dark.

We've lost one hen to a neck injury. I was in the run and heard squawking in the coop. A couple of girls were just hasslin' each other. The GSL hopped up to the roost but got it wrong and struck her neck on the narrow side of the 2"x4". She immediately began positioning her head with her open beak toward the sky. She wheezed when breathing. She was unable to drink or eat and early the next morning we tried (again) to get water in her, but she couldn't swallow and was fading fast, I got the ax but, after removing her from the coop, placing her in the run, and while turning to open the gate, she flipped over on her back and died.

If I hadn't seen the injury occur, I'd have suspected Gape Worm or, maybe, something respiratory. If I hadn't opened her up after she died I wouldn't have seen the hemorrhaging and swelling in her neck.

Your bird is most likely in shock among other things. You might provide her with electrolites or sugar water.

Thanks for all the help, she is still alive, not as bad as yesterday but she dosen't want to take water or food. I use a syringe and she shakes her head. I hope that she will get better soon . Thanks again.
