Hello,
I have a hen that is sitting on eggs Sunday afternoon we had our first chick hatch and they have been hatching ever since. We have 4 live chicks and thus morning we had one that had externally pip the side of the away from the air sac, we gave been monitoring the progress every couple of hours. We went to check on everyone and the egg shell is gone, chick is wet and there was something attached to his bottom. Hen has since pecked it off of him and ate it. I have included some pictures. I have cleaned the blood covered bedding quickly so I could get him under her to dry and warm up. I plan on cleaning the nest and move the eggs that haven't hatched ( I have 3 eggs that are a couple weeks behind these guys cause a couple hens decided they wanted to lay them in the broody hens nest instead of thier own, so those will be going into the new incubator I just got in today). My question is do I just clean him and the nest up, or just leave him be, or do I need to do something specific? That seems like a lot of blood to me, but this is my first hatch. We have never had a hen go broody until now and we have has her for about 5 to 6 yrs. Thank you guys.
