Hi everyone!
I'm hoping to receive some assistance with hatching duck eggs. I have been incubating a duck egg for 15 days now and don't know exactly what day it is on. I found a nest in my garden on May 30 with 8 eggs in it. The mother was still with the eggs and was sitting on them every day. However, 15 days ago on June 11, I found the nest destroyed by an animal and the mother had abandoned it...6 of the eggs were cracked and eaten, and only 2 were left whole. After candling them both, only 1 appeared to be living and viable. I decided to incubate this egg myself so it would hatch.
Judging by the size of the air sac and the duck inside, I would assume it has been at least 27 days...
Everything has been great so far- lots of movement, good air sac development. Today I also started to see the duck attempting to push into the air sac to internally pip.
I was just wondering, how long should it take until the duck has successfully internally pipped into the air sac? I just want to make sure things are moving along correctly and there is a successful hatch. I began to see the duck pushing into the air sac at about 1pm today. It is now 9:45pm and it is still trying. Is there a point at which it is taking too long and risks suffocating in the egg?
I know it takes them 12-24 hours from the internal pip to the external pip, so I guess I am just wondering if this is the same amount of time it takes for a duck to start pushing into the air sac and then successfully get in.

I wouldn’t handle the egg at this point. It’s lockdown it’s sounds like :) it will come out when it knows it’s time :)

thank you for the reply! i have been leaving the egg alone since then.
is there a point where i should become worried thought? i'm not sure how long it should take for it to be able to successfully get into the air sac...it has been almost 48 hours now of trying. is this normal or could something be wrong?

It can take awhile and since you don’t know exact date of incubation makes it a little harder, but it sounds like the duckling is very close to entering the world :) just keep an eye on the eggs movement and for the first crack on the shell.
