Help - hatching goslings for the first time.....

Just out of interest, what would be wrong with a gosling keep flipping on its back.

I have wondered if crossing geese is a good idea due to possible birth defects, seeing as we dont know what the Embden geese are crossed with although I would say they are full Embdens looking at them.

I will go and get some pics of them and post

Not sure. I think I heard something about it being neurological. Most pull out of it within 24-48 hours, but some don't make it.

Cross-breeding is like a mutt. Mixing unrelated lines minimizes genetic issues that are prominent to specific breeds.

Beautiful day for a picture :0)

Hi,

Just to update, extreamly sad day today we have lost Booboo, she just wouldn't eat :0( I tried everything but she just shook her head. She would drink fine but wouldn't have any food offered!

We are very blessed to have had her for the time we did, at one point I didn't think she'd get out of her shell alive, but thanks to Iain she did.

I have candled the 6 we put in the oct 20 last sunday and 5 are fertile, I'm mist spraying everyday and the tanks are full, they are on auto turn but I flip them over once a day, should I be doing anything else to increase the chances of a hatch without assistance! I'm so very sad about Booboo and Baba and if we can do anything at all to help these 5 progress and survive we will do it.

I'm going to re read petes guide later

Thanks & all the best for your hatch I'll be watching out

One thing I would very much recommend, since your last hatch was so overdue indicating temps too low, is to double check that your temp/humidity gauges are accurate.

Also, you may want to hop over to the "Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings" thread. There are more experienced people than myself than can help guide you towards a successful hatch.
