Hope I'm posting this in the right place. Have a BR hen brooding 17 (at last count) eggs. Yesterday (due date by my calculations, but I'm new at this and clueless) found a half-hatched egg on the floor of the coop with developed chick, dead. This morning when I checked on her she has one chick, live, and was in the process of attacking another that had hatched. Sadly, she killed it before I could get it out in time. Hubby says maybe nature was taking its course and there was something wrong with it. But my heart is broken! Question: should I remove the remaining eggs and hatched chick, put them under a heat lamp and see what happens? Or should I just leave her alone? Why would she do this? Please help!
