Early this spring my Blue Orpington pullet was mauled by her cockerel I removed her, washed her and of course immediately sprayed her injuries with Blu-Kote. Her injuries have healed and you can't tell she was taken down to the bone and tendon by his sharp toenails!!! Here lies the problem - 4-H fair is about 2 1/2 weeks away and she is supposed to be my oldests bird to show. She has pretty purple feathering along one wing and under her wing. Is there any way to remove or lighten it further? And the other question is, will she be DQ'd or just severely faulted for the coloration?

In the future, I will be using other options for medicating my show birds, but it was what I had at hand and NEEDED to treat ASAP.

Thanks for suggestions - and yes, I do have shots of her pretty purple self, but not sure how to post here.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to get Blue Kote off. I've done some research, but I can't find any information on getting it off of chickens, only off of people.Have you tried washing her? Enough washing/scrubbing may lighten the color.

However, I can help you with your second question, regarding whether she will be DQ'd. Its likely that she won't be disqualified, especially at a 4-H fair. She may not do as well, though, because the judge won't be able to tell the true coloring under the BlueKote.
