Help! How do I know how many chickens I have?? Need a way to count.

Hey all,

I have over 500 chickens. I started out with a lot more but had some died (until we could figure out what was going on). Anyway, it would have been great if my guys had counted the dead ones and then we would have known how many live ones were left. That didn't happen soooooo.... now I don't know how many chickens I have and I want to sell them soon. I need to know how many chickens I have to sell!!!

They are in side of a large chicken house. Any tricks to count chickens?

You could always start with the number one and continue from there.

A thought to making counting easier would be to let some out in morning, close door and count, then let some more out and count some more. Or if you keep them housed 24/7 then walk through with a flash light after they roost and count them as they sleep and are not moving around.

Wow, that's a whole lot of chickens!

Do you have some way of separating them into different areas? Or tagging them as you count? If they are different breeds, you could maybe count how many RIR, how many BO's, etc.

With that many, it would be tough to know exactly.
