Just processed 20 meat birds. I've just finished and they are all in ice water. How long can they stay that way? OK until tomorrow morning? Or do I need to get them out and in the fridge?

I would get them out when they get chilled off. Bag them and put them in the fridge for a couple days before freezing.

go buy more ice and ice the birds so that you will have ice still in the morning. Then its like being in a fridge.Make sure the birds are immersed fully in the water ice mixture.

You can also add salt to brine the birds while at it but that will cause the ice to melt quite a bit faster. Brining also keeps the bacterial growth low and it helps to pull out the remaining blood. But then again the meat may not have much flavor left?? maybe... not so sure on the last item.

Keep a tight lid on the iced chicken!! My dogs and cats will be after for "their" cut.

Thank you!!! Will add more ice tonight and bag and put them in the fridge first thing in the morning. Beyond exhausted right now! Wasn't sure if it would ruin them to keep them in there. smilingcat - they are in a container with a screw on lid! Should keep cats, dogs, bears, wolves, etc. out of it.
