Help! How to stop my hen from annoyingly crowing like a rooster

We have some chicks and one hen quarantined at the back of the house.

The woman we got this new batch from had some young ones that we learned were cockerels (witnessed them crowing...it's a breed I've not had experience with so I was having a hard time telling gender...even the woman who sold them to me was too), so we had to rehome them with some friends.

Shortly after rehoming the two cockerels, one of my d'Uccle hens started crowing. Now I know this is a hen, as she's older for one, so it's obvious what her gender is and, well that and she was laying eggs. I knew they were her eggs as I had to separate her at one point 'cause she was being nasty to one of the older pullets and some of the younger ones

Well one morning I hear crowing and I'm like good grief, I know I got all the cockerels and rehomed them. They're old enough now to tell gender (but for my OEGB, but that one would never have a crow this deep). I first noticed she'd suddenly stopped laying. Then one day I sneaked in there and sure enough, it was her, just a crowing away.

If you don't have a rooster in your flock usually one of your hens will play the role of the rooster to help balance the flock.

This probably explains the rooster like behavior you guys are seeing in your hens.

I know this is funny but you could buy her a no crow rooster collar. There twenty dollars and you just put it around the chickens neck. It's mesh and does not suffocate them! It just stops them from gathering enough air to crow loudly. You can only buy it on mypetchicken.com
I realize this is an old post but I am having problem with a crowing hen. I just ordered a rooster collar from mypetchicken. Thanks for the information!!!

Just curious. Is this hen laying? Some crowing hens lay, but most, at least according to my old poultry book, don't. I'm would like to know about yours.

I don't

I don't know but probably not. She is older and I have 16 of these older hens and get 2 or 3 eggs a day. I just like them.

If you like them that is reason enough to keep them. I was just curious about your crowing hen. I have never had or even seen one. As for me, I am planning on getting a few Jersey Giants and a couple standard Cochins this next spring. I know they won't be the greatest layers, but they are supposed to be big docile chickens and pretty to look at. That's good enough for me. I would like to get some really nice English Orpingtons, but I am not having much luck finding those, so I settled on Jersey Giants and Cochins. I know where I can get those. I live just a few miles from Cackle Hatchery.

Many of mine are rescue hens, someone else didn't want them! I bought four chicks a year ago and four again this past spring but all the rest are old. I have two Jersey Giants and they are very sweet . The most playful as chicks are my leghorns.
All total I now have 22. They are free range, I have 5 Acres.

I bought the no crow rooster collar, great product. My hen still crows but it is a deep throated crow which is not annoying. I may not have the collar tight enough as I just put it on this morning. It took her about 15 minutes to stop fighting it. So far, I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a rooster but not the crowing.
Thank you so much for the information Chicky Crazy. It works, Shamo Hybrid!
