These are his feathers! He was pure black but now is turning into this pattern!

That's a golden lace pattern, I've seen it in Wyandottes, Orpingtons, and Polish.

EDIT: Wait, I just realized the colors are reversed...

Might be the beginning of a gold penciled pattern? Hard to tell since he's still feathering out.
