As a first time chicken owner, I decided to incubate some eggs soooo on the 8th I put 18 Silkie eggs in the bator. No big deal, that was easy. The next day, DH says we need some guineas so I found me 10 guinea eggs, let's just add them to the bator. Ok all is good until I start researching (yeah, a little late, I know). Their incubation time is 28 days (the lady I got them from told me 21 just like my silkies). I only have one bator! What do I do when I have to stop turning the Silkie eggs for lockdown????

Thanks in advance!

You need a 'hatcher' to use for when your silkies go on lockdown. If you let them lockdown while the other eggs are still developing it could harm them. Can you borrow another incubator from someone to use as a hatcher? If not, use the search bar up there to see how to build something to be used as a hatcher.

you can put a divider in the incubator, you will have to hand turn if your using a turner. the main thing is to keep the chicks off the guinea eggs. I don't know how well it will work, but ive heard of people drilling holes in small glad or Tupperware containers and using them.

Yep, if you can't get a second incubator, you'll have to hand turn your guinea eggs, and maybe put them in a glad container or something so the chicks can't knock them around.
