Yes, it would be the best thing to do to put it back. It is illegal for you to take eggs from wild bird's nests, even if the nest appears abandoned.

In the US it is illegal to tamper with wild songbird nests or eggs - they are protected by federal law. I agree with the others who said, put it back.
