How can I prove that my birds are hens not roosters????
I live in Queens, New York and I have 6 hens.... How can I prove that they are all girls before some one comes in and fines me,
Because am sure who ever the city sends would be clueless and I have a feeling I will till be fined.

THANKS

Is any of them crowing? Im sure whoever came out to look would be able to tell the difference between a hen and a rooster. Take pictures of your girls and send them to the city. Print off a info sheet of chickens and include that?

Get an expert opinion. Owing to legal nature of situation the expert will have to either sign something or make statement in front of appropriate official. If birds represent a breed, then someone that breeds them or otherwise has demonstrated some knowledge about chickens in general should do.

If the allegation is that there is a rooster present, it would be incumbent on the accuser to prove that there is a rooster. It would not be up to you to prove that there is no rooster.

To prove that a rooster is present, one would have to be able to specifically describe a rooster and all of its observable characteristics and identify the rooster in the flock. Just because a chicken is large, dominant, or noisy would be insufficient proof that it was a rooster. In most breeds, a rooster is undeniably such at maturity.

One of my hens is quite a bit larger than the others. Someone thought she was a rooster, until the rooster walked around the side of the shop. Nothing looks so much like a rooster as a two-year old barred rock rooster.
