HELP I hatched an abnormal chick VIDEO ADDED

I think wry neck is often genetic and/or nutritional on the breeder's part. I personally would cull, but you may be able to "fix" it with enough time and care with the little guy. Just don't breed it. Shouldn't be contagious.

I honestly wouldn't cull it. That silkie looked like it could eat alright and in my opinion- if it can eat and drink and isn't in pain, why not let it live?
I agree on the don't breed it part, obviously.

How is it today?

I don't think it's wry neck..more likely a vitamin deficiency since it just hatched. I would do the poly vi sol treatment direct into the mouth (or you can put it in the water and dip its beak). Could be neurological, but the vitamin treatment would rule that out if it corrects itself. I agree the bird should only be retained as a pet and not used for breeding just in case it is a genetic condition. If it is blind, I would put it down. Difficult to tell by the video, but it appears it may be.

It was worse when I went to bed, you couldnt comfort it, it wouldnt stop peeping, labored breathing, and it couldnt stay upright.
It had passed this morning when I got up.

Thanks for the advise. I hope that doesnt happen again. If it runs in silkies it must be the roo that it came from, I will be swapping him out of the main pen.

I have one more egg in this batch to pip and 9 due to hatch the 21st that may be his so this isnt over yet! I have a young EE roo in the pen that was going to be my EE man but he is just now getting the idea of roosterage.
