I'm just getting over having a mite infested coop, run, and chickens. What I did was give my bird's a bath in wood ash. The next week, I cleaned the coop and used, I think, MannaPro parasite spray in the coop and on the birds. That didn't do much, so I grew desperate and used sevens dust. I thoroughly dusted the birds, coop, and the run. They left almost immediately! :weee This week I'm gong to do that again. No mites for me, please! Hope is for you, if you decide to try it!

After having a fire in a fireplace, you find the ash from the wood. Sometimes it's like a greyish powder. I found sevens dust ( I'm not sure if that's how you spell it) at Big R. You could find it in a UK outdoor store, meaning gardening or something like that. Or a chicken supply store might have it. Stevens is supposed to be used on plants an things like that, but it's fine on chickens and where they live. I didn't eat the eggs after dusting, but it's probably fine. When dusting, try to go deep into the feathers and skin. Especially dust around the vent, under the wings, and the chest. Clean and dust the coop well, too, to get rid of the mites entirely! :ya

Sevin is carbaryl; also permethryn dust, or the easiest and most effective, Ivermectin either by mouth or on the skin. I use Ivermectin on the birds and dust the coop with either product. Works great, and the Ivermectin also kills most intestinal worms too. Mary

Don't use Chemicals in an effort to kill red mite... they only work for so long. The red Mite quickly build up a resistance to any chemicals you use.

I unreservedly recommend DE (Diatomaceous Earth). It attacks the mites physically so they can never build up any resistance to it.

I bought some off Ebay not so long ago, I paid £18 for a 10KG bag.

Its great stuff!! The most effective red mite solution I've ever used.

It cleared up my infestation up in TWO DAYS!! and all I did was sprinkle it all around the hutch, making sure I got plenty of it in all the cracks and crevices.

I apply the DE directly onto the hens, making sure I get plenty of it on. It sticks to the birds feathers by static so I put it in their dust-baths.

Give it a try, you will be amazed at how a 100% Natural product can be so effective... I know I was.
