I have a banty roo whose comb/wattles and part of an eye is bloodied. I am trying to get the bleeding to stop. He isn't lettin me hold a tissue on it, any ideas on how to do this???
Also he has been with theother roo that did this to him for months with no problems. I seperated them 2 days ago so the other one could breed with his girls and now this. Why would they sit there and attack each other through the fence??? I sthat normal????
Do you think my beuatiful Pepe is going to be ok????

I think it is. I havent had that experience with my roos, but my hens beat the S**T out of another hen like that last month. They have been around each other a year and free ranged together for all that time. My GUESS would be that pulling one roo changed things up and rocked the boat a bit. Im sure he'll heal up as good as new.

I just came in, from the same thing. I have a little silkie roo...in the hospital pen...because the other roos were beating him up. He has been in this pen for about a week. Today, when I went out there, he was bloody. It looks even worse on a white silkie. After I catch him, I ran cold water over his comb, he would shake his head ( blood everywhere now UGH) then I applied Blue Kote. He is fighting the EE roo in the adjoining pen...through the fence. So, I had to come up with a quick remedy...and put up some metal roofing along the fence line. Hope your little roo gets better. Im headed out there in a few to check mine again. But more than likely....they will both be fine.

Thanks, I just put iodine and ointment on him. The bleeding almost stopped. I thinkI will put something up between the pens. I just never thought they would go at b/c they have always been together.

Justusnak-I hope your white silkie gets better!!

flush the area wth sterile saline and apply triple antibiotic creme or betadine and use cornstarch to help stop bleeding (as a sort of "clotting agent) if you have no clotting gel to hand and he is not allowing you to stop the bleeding with pressure ...

I've used newsprint to successfully stop superficial bleeding. I just tear off a tiny piece and stick it to the wound. I did this last week with one of my hen's combs; worked just fine and then I used bag balm on the area. Hope things quiet down for you!

As the males mature they can get very aggressive and territorial. It is in their nature.

Be thankful the fencing was between them. Fights can be really bad and only one left standing in the end.

With your attentiveness to his wounds he will heal and be just fine.

Karri, thanks....last time I checked on him, right before dark....the bleeding has stopped. Whew! On a white silkie it looks so tragic! Hope you little one is better too!

I feel so stupid! The cornstarch is, of course, a good idea!! Thanks y'all now I know.
Well, the bleeding stopped and he's all cleaned up. He has numerous little cuts on his comb and wattles, one right above his eye. He has one largish cut on his left wattle. He is mad but I kept him in. I am going to keep him in for a few days b/c of the cuts and b/c he has been sneezing so I figure it can't hurt. I am going to try to find something easy and cheap to put around the pen. It's a fairly large pen and it's not a strong structure so I'm hitting my head against a wall right now. It's a good thing I ove my little Pepe:)
