When I bought my house 10 years ago. It came with a similiar situation of a family of mean feral cats. They all looked alike. The vet said there were no branches on the family tree, and it wasn't a health problem. I was able to take in the younger ones when they got sick, still have one. The rest have all since passed on, but in his day Old Mange wouldn't let any strange cat near his food, especially males.As he aged he mellowed a little (not towards me) and I would find him sharing his dish with others.

Imp-Still miss Old Mange.

Don't worry...they can't actually breed since genetically they just don't work together.

We heard both male and female cats howl their one-track minds away! While the daddy's may not be so friendly, the subsequent babies might.

It is the female who makes that awful and agonized sounding "you're hurting me" yowl while they are mating, in my experience. Have seen it. Amazing the things have survived if that's really what it means. The only "mating call" I am aware of is this.

But then, I am not a cat expert, though have owned them for years, so this is only observation. Since most of mine were neutered, not a lot of observations. (Not to imply I think you should neuter these cats, don't get me wrong.) I'd wish I had a colony of feral cats since I moved here, to the country, except my dogs are wiping out the rats and mice.
