We have 5 chicks hatched 3/19 1 serama 2 buffs and 2 americaunas. We went through a bit of pasty butt the first week or so with the serama and 1 buff. Then last night I noticed one of our americauna's was acting very strange...."Sweetie" was previously a very calm chick that would allow us to pick her up and hold her. She ate well and drank from chicken nipples had never had a problem with her...until last night she had her legs stiff straight out behind her like she was dead! I went to pick her up and she limped/hopped away from me. I added probiotics to the waterer and we tried to get her to eat but she wasnt interested. This morning she was dead! From what I've read I'm thinking unknown injury or vitamin deficency. I do make their food so they arent on medicated chick start...we want them to be all organic. I'm concerned that others will fall ill and die suddenly too. One of the buffs is cross beaked so I'm guessing that puts her at an increased risk. SHe was purchased as a day old from a local guy...I've emailed him he has had no similar issues and has offered to replace her. I want to know what killed her though...
Any ideas what killed my chicken?
