I first want to start off with saying nobody should get chicks from California Hatcheries.

How do i nurse a chick back to health. This is the trird chick that is sick The other two died. I have it in a box it leans back on its legs with its eyes closed. It hasnt moved in 30 minutes is their anthing i can do to help it?

I had one get sick due to the weather - too young for the henhouse. I wrapped her in a lightweight towel, slept with her on my chest for a couple of hours for warmth, then kept her in a small box with feed and water - talked to her constantly, and she would respond to my voice. Then she started complaining about being alone - she's fine now! All I can suggest is some TLC and keep your fingers crossed.

But I'd sure contact the hatchery and tell them what's going on...

Have a great day, and God bless!

HiSorry to hear your chick is not feeling well. It is hard when they are so small. I had a week old chick that was stepped on by my poor daughter. I thought at first it had broken its neck. That was not the case. It was just reall injured. I was afraid to put it in with the other chicks because it was so lathargic and barely could move. I put her under a broody hen for two days.. I took her out every couple of hours for electrolytes mixed with sugar water. Dipping her beak to make her drink. She ate nothing...did not walk for three days. Then I thought she was wasting away.. Felt terrible..took her out from under the broody hen and fed her applesauce. I basically took a spoon and shoved it on her beak. It was watery and she liked it! I then took cottage cheese and puréed it so that it was an applesauce cottage cheese mix. That seemed to really perk her up. She is completely normal now. I cannot tell you how many times I thought she was going to die. Don't ever give up. If they are not suffering.. I pray and let God do his mighty work. Dead is forever.. Sometimes I think am I wanting my suffering to end.. Or the birds.?. She was hurt, but now she is great.. Best of luck to you!!

We've lost ten chicks this year from two different hatcheries, somethings definitely not right. Thanks to a post by wolftracks, we saved the last two by giving them Poly Vi Sol. You should be able to get it at any pharmacy or grocery store, just make sure it's the iron free kind. We started out giving them one drop three times a day, and weened them down as we saw improvement.

Hope this helps, and your chicks makes a full recovery!

It died about an hour ago so thanks for the tips
