Hello,I think my lil girl has a concussion! We went to catch her last night and we had to use a net! Well the metal part hit her on the head! It knocked her out! I did get her to come around last night and she seemed fine! But this morning she just lays there with her eyes closed! I have her in a crate with food and water and I layed her on some straw! These are my girls,my pets! Is she dying???? Does anyone have a suggestion????

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I'm not sure what you can do other than keep her in a warm quite place and watch her. Maybe you can drip a bit of water along the side of her beak ( not into the beak) and see if she responds. I hope she gets better.

I really can't take her to the vet but I hav been using water on her beak and head! She just looks so pitiful! Do any of you know if they sale steroids for chickens at the farm store? Thank you all for responding! We won't be using the net anymore!

I had a girl with a concussion once. She couldn't walk. I thought she had a broken leg. The chicken vet (very expen$ive) said she had a concussion and that she would get better with time. I don't think he gave her any steroids, but it was years ago. I may have given her some people prednisone. She did recover. Please post how she does.

Hi I'm very sorry this happened. The steroid you need would be called predinsone. It reduces brain swelling. I just had to get some for my silkie with wry neck. It was shipped out Monday and due to arrive by Friday. If you know of anyone that uses the predinsone maybe they can give you some? Otherwise its very difficult to acquire with out a prescription. I'm fortunate to know a poultry doctor who is in another state than I am and I got mine by getting a prescription from him. He's actually sending me the medication for my bird. Other than getting a RX from a doctor I'm not sure you can get it otherwise. I know pet meds online carry it but they call your vet to get the OK to ship it. Maybe if you called your vet and explained the situation they would approve the RX from 1800petmeds. All they have to do is approve it over the phone. I'm not sure if your vet is willing to do that but its sure worth a phone call. I know they have it in liquid form for dogs. Otherwise not sure you can get the predinsone any where else? I'd give her some vitamins and electrolytes in a syringe on her beak and you can also give Bayer low dose children's aspirin for the swelling of the brain
I'm also using that myself. Just put the aspirin in the syringe and put water in the syringe and the aspirin will melt then you can carefully give her it that way. If she does not improve I would find a vet who would OK the sale of the predisone from some where like 1800petmeds or like pharmacy. Hope this helps and hope she gets better soon. Best of luck.

I just went out to check on my lil girl and whoop whoop! She is awake and alert! She really wanted out of that crate but maybe tomorrow! My prayers were answered! Thank you!

She will probably be fine. My 7 week old chicken got attacked by a Hawk. My baby was too big to be carried away so it just left a 5 inch gash on her back and there was actually air coming out of her back. She healed within a week or two and now she's doing great. All of the best!
