One of my chickens have been acting lethargic for the past few days. Just five minutes ago I saw her poop and it looked like this. She used to be the first one to greet me in the mornings and now she is not eating very well nor is she active.

I also forgot to mention that she is breathing with her mouth slightly open, when i lean in close i can hear heavy breathing

How old is she? Do you know when she last laid? Feel her crop, is it empty, full, hard, soft, squishy, etc? Feel her abdomen below the vent, between the legs, does it feel bloated, hard, or water balloon like? Have you ever wormed or had a fecal done to check for internal parasites?

She is only 7 months old. I don’t recall her laying for the last week. Her crop is squishy. The abdomen is normal. I thought that it might have worms too, so I worked them the day before yesterday. Still seeing no progress.

Is this one of the birds that had respiratory issues back in January?

What exactly do you feed your flock?

I feed them layer feed 17% and extra food like oats and mealworms. I was kind of concerned because I saw the same chicken swallowing a lizard. Could that be the problem?

The lizard is probably not the problem but the problem is probably all the oats and mealworms you feed...that and The respiratory disease you thought you cured with herbs...it's probably back.

Can you take your bird to the vet for antibiotics?
