Earlier today I feed my 41/2 week old chicks (just got them) a little hard boiled egg. Then I realized I do not have any grit. How soon do I need to give it to them after feeding the egg? It's too late to go to the store. They have starter crumbles, but should I put something else in there so they get the grit tonight?

I'm freaked!

I agree. A little HB egg is OK. Not like it's whole nuts or something like that. I think you are fine.

Why do they need grit after eating the hard boiled egg??? Sorry...just have no clue on that one.

They will be fine. Get them some grit tomorrow. I think they only need grit for things that need to be ground up well to be digested... Nuts, seeds, leaves, etc.

Wow! I feel a lot better (I'm such a newby)...thank you and nighty night. To the "grit store" tomorrow!

grit hmmmm? never gave my peeps grit, i probably should have tho

anyhow mine did fine without grit until they were able to get their own grit from the driveway, I'm sure your guys will be fine until you manage to round up some grit

you don't need grit for hard boiled egg! Always remember, if it is mushy and you don't need teeth to grind it up, your chicks will be fine.
