Help identify....Ribbon snake?

Found this inside my coop today .....

It's just a garter snake

I know they're beneficial...but Holy SH*T.. glad to know it's not going to hurt my girls...

The chickens are more likely to injure that snake! I'd move it out to a safer spot.
Garter snakes do have a nasty smelling 'fluid' that they can let out if frightened. But do move it on elsewhere, they do good work...

It went back out, they same way it entered...I don't want to hurt him....just make him go away

yeah, looks like a female garter snake. The males are much smaller.

Just secure the spot she came in through.

I've seen garter snakes easily 20" long, both in northern Wisconsin, and southern Michigan. I believe that there are several sub-species, or at least regional differences...
Must look them up!

Just looked, and SO MANY regional varieties, sizes, colors, everything.

My husband calls them
Rat snakes, chicken snakes, King snakes ...
He said it's basically the same thing as a garter snake...

Harmless in general, but if they get big enough they will swallow chicken eggs...
