So we purchased 6 chicks all guaranteed to be hens (replacement if it a roo because the of the city ordnance of not having roos). They are 8 weeks 1 day and one started Crowing. We had a feeling Pepper might be a roo a week or two ago but this is our first batch of chicks so we don't have any experience identifying roos this young. The comb is much bigger then the others and it looks like his is developing hackle feathers that go down. His tail feathers are always up now unlike the rest who mainly keep them straight. I also see new shiny feathers growing just on top it's wings that look different (long, wispy and more ornamental) then the rest. We have to find a home if it's a roo because we're not allowed to keep them in city limits.
