I bought some chicks from Ideal Poultry and they put in an extra one and I am curious as to what breed it is. When it came as a day old it was a fluffy yellow all over except for a white head. This is a picture of it as a day old compared in color to the other ones I bought.

Now it is almost three weeks later. It's wing feathers and back/tail feathers are coming in. They are mostly red with a little bit of black in them. And they are tipped in white. I am pretty sure it's a cockerel because I read that they normally don't give pullets as the extra packing ones. Here are some pictures of them now.

Thanks for any help

I have no idea what breed it is, but the coloring looks like a wheaten pattern. I have wheaten marans chicks and they look very much like that one. See if the hatchery has any birds in that color. Maybe it will solve the mystery!

Sorry but this is the only way I can figure out how to post.... Can anyone tell me what this is?? I was told it is a turken ( turkey chicken ) a y feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks earth mover for the reply! I did research on the Wheaton species, and I believe my chick bears a resemblance to the Wheaton Americauna. If it were a Wheaton Americana, do you know whether it is a pullet or a cockeral?

Hi there, sorry it took so long to reply. An Ameraucana should have "muffs" under their chins, and a pea comb, so I don't think it is that. Could be an easter egger, they don't always have muffs. Too young to tell if it is a cockerel or not. You can tell at 12 weeks, if the saddle feathers are pointy, it is a boy, if they are rounded, girl. Sorry I can't be of more help, sometimes you just have to wait it out.... ;)

Here are some updated pictures. This is how it looks at 4 weeks. Starting to get a red comb, so almost positive it's a rooster
