Help! I'm looking for a dog breed that....

I know you are trying to avoid behavior problems, but they are likely to happen. Think if it this way, even though you'd rather have a dog with no problems (who doesn't?), you are more than willing to get a trainer, train the dog, work through issues. You are a much better place for a dog with behavior issues to land with, rather than people who are going to freak out and rehome/euthanize a dog for behavior issues.

I'm not sure if my parents, are, though- I'm sure if they found the right dog they'd be happy with it, but now I'm all worried lol
train the dog, work through issues.
I'd be happy to do that.

That does make me feel better ❤️

Totally agreed!!

Most of the listings that I'm looking at don't have any of the potentially problematic .....aside from Bucky's :th
Of course the one dog that I fall immediately in love with is the one that's the sketchiest

Bucky is sketch but maybe he'll be magically a great dog

I don't know, just trying to be optimistic.

Not sure your parents would get a trainer?

if people can afford it, its usually the first go to. Maybe discuss with them the issues that a rescue dog might have, and that hiring a trainer might have to be a option

Yeah, they've always done all of their training themselves (but have also only gotten breeder puppies)

We can afford it. Maybe I'm just overthinking this

I guess I'll wait to meet him to make a final judgement.

Thanks so much to @JoyThatSticks for that awesome list of what to do to screen for behavior issues when meeting a dog.

Yeah, did they ever have severe behavior issues though? LOL. You can probably handle the general training, but just incase anything serious comes up.. like if he is aggressive with dogs, you will need a trainer.

And its not overthinking, cover all the bases so you know what you are getting in to. It will be ok. training a dog is hard but the outcome is so worth it
