HELP!!!!! I'm lost, confused, and chickenless.

I will take your advice chicken241. Started looking at those sex links when Hopechick mentioned them. I hear nothing but good things about them. Making lots of progress on the coop and should be complete (weather permitting) this week. If you get a chance check out the feeder I made yesterday on my profile page photos. Thanks for your help /advice.

OK..........not chickenless any more. I got four Golden Comets yesterday. So now there is five of us confused. And they look lost too. We are figuring this out. My four 14 week old Golden Comet pullets are showing me how this all works. Thanks to all of you. I listened and got the red sex links. And.......two Buff Orpingtons......and two Barred Rocks......that makes six.....Right?....... In chicken math? Oh well who counting anyway. One happy family.

Thanks to all of you. Hopechick says Red Sex Link should be considered. Too many choices and too little knowledge for me. But thanks Hopechick I will for sure give them some consideration. And "Chicken Math" I think I am learning that pretty quick. Lets see I want six........so order three RIR, order three Buff Orpingtons, and three Red Sex Links.....OH and don't forget the three Barred Rocks. You guys are great. Do any of you live in your coop and keep the chickens in the house? Seems chicken math would do that.. lol

I have some Buff Orpingtons and also a Golden Comet that needed a home. They are about 4 weeks now and SO sweet. I like your chicken math, in my case it was 6 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Rhode Island Red and 1 Golden Comet = 3 or 4

I was warned thats how it works Zany Chick. I set my limit at six and came home with eight. Now your telling me you got three or four and i'm counting ten. I might be into some serious trouble here. I do have a lot of room for just eight birds. What breed do i just have to have to be complete? Right now i have (4) Golden Comets, Two Buff Orpingtons, and Two Barred Rocks all pullets. Any suggestions

I don't know, I'm new to this too. I really wanted Barred Rock, but I'm out of room, for now, anyway. I think 4 of my Buff Orpingtons are cockerals so at least 3 of them will be rehomed. Luckily I know someone who will take them. Still not sure whether I am going to keep the other one. I had it set in my head what breeds I wanted from what I had seen before, now there are so many breeds out there that I didn't even know existed!!! I ended up with the Orpingtons on a "whim" shall we call it, but after researching them any having them for a while, they were a really good choice.

I'm sure more experienced owners will have suggestions!

I'm new on here (and a new chicken owner) too but and I have one red star (golden comet)...and I am loving my Easter Egger, Rhode Island Red and Gold-laced Wyandotte as well....so I would recommend any of those! Haha (my chicks are only a little over 3 weeks old though so what do I know?!!!). I am loving this, I think all of the chicken types are perfect!

It's called "Chicken Crazy" and no doctor can cure it.. lol! But seriously, there's nothing wrong about raising chickens. They are fun to watch, provide you fresh eggs or meat, and keep the bug population down.
