HI! I'M Linda from riverview, FL. Moved here from FL . PANHANDLE where I could have chickens, so I had whatever breed I wanted to free range on our 5 acres. Due to husband's transfer we live where backyard chickens are not allowed, called hillsborough county zoning was told they don't go looking for chickens only know I have chickens if neighbors complain. From my walks through my neighborhood (I walk an average of 5 miles a day) a lot of people have chickens, you have to listen carefully and look but they are there hidden in backyards, although I have seen some strutting around front yards. My neighbors are fine with me have chickens, we have 1/4 acre now with chain link fence, but you know there will be that one person who will see them that shouldn't. So I need suggestions on breeds that are relatively quiet and like lots of hot weather. Don't think I can let them free range unless we install a taller fence this one is only 4 ft high. Will not be getting more than 4 chickens yea right Thanks I'm gonna love this site!

Welcome to BYC, Linda! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

It's hard to find a chicken that is quiet. All birds are different and make their own sounds at their own pitches. But there are some breeds who are generally quieter. Cochins, silkies, faverolles, Ameracaunas and australorps all tend to be on the more quiet side. Plus all do pretty well in hot climates.
