I've lurked on the forum for years and we have had chickens for years too. We recently adopted 3 ducks and a drake that were in need of a new home. They are 1yo Buff Orphingtons. A couple of days ago I noticed that our drake seemed to have a very dirty bottom, but as these guys weren't used to being handled by their previous owner and are just starting to get comfortable around us I wasn't able to catch him for a closer look. Today I noticed a very foul smell coming from him and something hanging underneath (which I thought was some poop). I was able to catch him for a closer look and it appears what is hanging down isn't poop and is certainly something that should not be on the outside. Being new to ducks I have no idea what this is. His penis? Part of an intestine? Is there any way to help him or do we need to put him down?

From reading about prolapsed penis it sounds like he may recover. But what I don't understand is why he is covered in liquid feces if it is his penis. I was thinking intestine as the feces has to be leaking out from somewhere. But I'm totally new to ducks so I really have no idea.

All things come out of same vent poop, pee and penis. So put him in cool water and let him sit for a while or float hopefully the coolness will help shrink it. Then slather Prep H all over and try and push it back in you may have to do it many times and it may not stay but keep trying and soaking and using Prep H. Drake Penis is like a cork screw .
He may need a vet. @Chris Wild
