This afternoon I let the chickens out into thier run. Its a bit windy but not too bad and the sun is shining. Everything was fine. The kids gave the chickens some danylion leaves and some grass.
Crackers is always the first to arrive on the snack scene. She is the most inquisitive and usually brave enough to look in my pockets for some potential treats. This morning was no different. Today Frightful laid an egg and I hard boiled it and fed it back to the birds all mushed up. Then another of our hens laid another one so again I hard boiled it and fed it back.
The reason im feeding the mushed egg is because I fed them wormer and cant eat the eggs for a while and dont want to waste them.
Anyhow, when i went out to give the second egg, Crackers didnt come, she stayed back away from everyone. She didnt even try to eat the egg I offered. I tried different things, like offering her a bit that the other birds hadnt seen, but she would have none of it.
She isnt runny nosed, and isnt coughing. There is no blood in anyones poo either. This was just a sudden change of character for her. Anyhow, Im really worried, she is sitting apart from the others. She is normally at the door when i enter, but shes over by the nest boxes, sort of roosting. Her tail isnt down, she doesnt seem disoriented. There doesnt seem to be anything outwardly wrong with her that I can see. I checked her crop and it was empty. Shes off her feed though.
All the other hens are perfectly fine! They are scratching and eating and doing chicken things.
Im feelig kind of scared for her because shes my favorite hen. Any ideas?
I forgot to mention they had a little crushed grape, strawberry and a crust of bread split between them. They dont get treats every day, only about every 3rd day. Crackers isnt laying yet either.
