A couple of my chickens have this splotchy looking coat for the last month. Is this molt, mites or anything to worry about? This is the first year with my little girls but their temperament and activity/appetite hasn’t changed. I do the deep litter method with a very thin layer of d.e. Please any advice welcome.

That looks odd. Is this extensive, like on chests, backs, & rears? I have no idea what's going on with the skin.

I do see a few pin feathers, so there's some possible molting too.

The broken feathers in the area also suggests either some mild picking, or rooster damage.

It is mostly on their necks and near their vent area. Is there anything I can do to help with the damaged pin feathers? It can’t be very comfortable. Like I said they they are extremely active girls, but of course there’s a favorite spot on the roosts and also a prized nesting box so they do get into sometimes.

Blinders can prevent those who are pecking them, by blocking their frontal veiw.

The skin overall looks weird, & pruney.

That’s what I thought too. I couldn’t find any threads that matched with what I’m dealing with here, except maybe an autoimmune disease?

Autoimmune disease maybe a possibility. I had a Brahma with a very suppressed immune system, & had a similar skin issue. Her molted feathers were poor quality, & skin wrinkled. She died of a worm overload, since she was immunocompromised.

Aw I'm sorry! What would you suggest? Push electrolytes and vitamins? And just see if that helps? I’ve heard black oil sunflower seeds are good for molting and feather growth, but I’ve also heard it can make them fall out. I don’t know what to believe. I’ll take any advice. I just want her as comfortable as possible. ☺️ The other chicken that has similar problems with her skin isn’t nearly as bad as this one… yet.
