I recently bought two 6 week old kid goat female twins. The seller said they were eating grain and hay and occasionally a bottle. I think she was lying! I called her after they developed diarrhea and she revealed she had bought them a few weeks ago and so I don’t know why they were taken from mom so early. They refuse grain and hay.... I have tried multiple varieties. They do eat grass and weeds.
Within a few days they developed diarrhea. I gave them electrolyte in a bottle and took to vet. Vet treated for Coccidia. Said to give electrolytes and probiotics in bottle for hydration and no grain or milk until diarrhea cleared. After a week and half and still mushy poop, I took another stool sample in. They said fecal float all negative and now I need to bottle feed cow milk and offer hay and feed with top dressed minerals. Said mushy poop is from too much water and not enough solids.
They are eager for 3 bottles a day and graze off and on throughout the day.
Anna the one who showed cocci, after bottle feeding she goes and stands off by herself and looks miserable. I have added a pinch of baking soda to bottles as I read it helps with digestion.
I want my babies to be well and happy.
I am new to goats and feel overwhelmed

Yeah they still need milk they aren’t supposed to be weaned until 8 weeks. Can you check their eyelids for anemia? They could have some internal parasites.

The vet checked and no anemia, also fecal float negative now for parasites. They had cocci, I just restarted milk after having them on electrolytes only during worst of diarrhea. I read not to let them suck on bottle till full or satisfied..... so today I cut back on milk and they did much better.
The vet said cocci plus milk replacer upset their system. He wanted to to try plain cows milk ( said better tolerated)

Your vet is right about the milk. Some kids do OK on replacer but others cannot tolerate the stuff. One thing that might help with digestion is live acidopholis culture. It is a beneficial bacteria and helps with the digestion of milk and maybe other things too. You can find it in the health food store or in the health food section of the larger supermarkets. It comes in both powdered or liquid forms. The liquid is better and you will find it in the refrigerated case. If you have replacer, you don't have to waste it. You can use it up by mixing a little of the dry replacer in their grain once they are weaned. It is a good supplement if used that way.

You can either feed the kids plain cow milk from the store, or if you want to get fancy, here is a formula made for kids. You take a gallon jug of cow milk from the store. Pour off about a quart. Add to the jug a can of evaporated (not condensed) milk and a cup of buttermilk. Fill the jug back up with some of the milk you poured off. That's it.
