I purchased this salmon favorelle as a female chick and looking at her comb, I'm not sure that "she" isn't a "he." It is 5 weeks old in this picture. Help!

In SF the males have black chest feathers, the females have no black feathers anywhere.
Thank you so much for your reply. I've heard it is a good idea to have a "spare" roo around. What are your thoughts? I have 14 hens, 1 rooster, and now this little guy.

We have more pullets/hens than you. We have 2 males, one is 3 months older than the other. They are 1 year old and 10 months old. They will fight sometimes, but the younger one is a slower maturing breed and more docile. The older one is flock leader. We had a third male (same age as the younger male), that we had to remove from the flock bc of the fighting and overmating the girls. That one had recently died -I think a breathing obstruction we couldn’t rectify.

so, a younger male will eventually fight the older male. But the older male should keep him in his place. Eventually, though, the younger one may oust the older one. The younger one will benefit greatly from being taught manners by the older hens and older rooster. Yes, it can work well. You’ll need to keep an eye open for over mating and general behavior. Be ready to remove younger one (temporarily) if needed during teen hormonal stage.
