Soooo I have a flock of silkie chickens whom were hatched from a friends incubator. One of the hens finally went broody! After 2 attempts, around 10-12 eggs, and over a month and a half later a single small grey chick with a black line on its head and back (it looked like it had a cute mullet) hatched out, we took care of it, feed it and the mother took care of it! Its probably been 15 days since it hatched and today at around 17:30 (Bulgarian time) when I went to check on the chick and its mother the chick was gone! We looked everywhere, checked ever possible place to find it, but it was no where to be found! We are scared that it could have been some predator bird because we free range them but we have put the chick and its mother in different area so the rest of the chickens wont try to bully the chick, this place has a huge roof that covers more than half of the area and a huge dense tree that covers the other half and on top of that we have put on every pocket/opening barbed wire soo if a predator type bird ever tried to come in it would have a really difficult time to get in! But on the counter that area is full of birds because around that area we feed them so birds usually come to that area so they can also feed on the leftovers (I know its not really practical and that area that we put the food is completely open and it has 0 protection) soo I don't know it could have been some bird! It cant really be a fox or any other animal because my father has basically grown up around chickens and he would know if an animal came in, and if it was something like fox it wouldn't just eat the chick but it probably would have gotten a chicken or a second but yeah! Its been around 5 hours since the incident and its night time now, it could have somehow escaped that area and went hiding somewhere but its way to late and we don't know what to do! Is there any point in continuing the search first sun rise? I don't know and I need help asap!

Good luck I hope you find it soon.

I hope you find the chick! I agree, playing chick noises or even mama hen noises may help. Does the mom seem to be looking for her baby?
