Help- Lump near hen's eye

This morning when we went out to tend the flock, I noticed that one of our 26 week old, P RIR hens, Sweetie, (she just started laying) has a very large lump right in front of her left eye, as big as her eye. There aren't any obvious cuts/ wounds or bruising, nor is it affecting her actual eye at this point. The lump seems firm, does not seem to be filled with pus- it is the same color red as her face, and does not noticeably seem warmer to the touch, or squishy.



She was vaccinated for Cocci and Marek's as a chick, and otherwise is a healthy weight, eats and drinks well and otherwise seems healthy. She free ranges, has daily supplemental layer feed, oyster and grit, corn and sunflower seeds, plus scraps, treats and spring water. Sweetie is good natured, and her energy does not seem affected. Her comb and wattles are red, and her poops seem about normal.

I've shown her in a variety of lighting so you can see the lump from different angles. Please ignore the mud on her face and beak as she was a busy girl this morning, lol. Thank you for any suggestions on what we can do to help her.

Sweetie (love the name) looks to have swelling in her sinus that is probably the beginning of a respiratory disease. I would quickly purchase some Tylan 50 injection and start her on 1 ml daily as a shot into her breast for 3 days, or given orally very carefully so as not to choke her for 5 days. Tylan soulble powder can be used instead in the water, but more expensive. Watch for more symptoms (cough, sneeze, nasal drainage, pus from eyes, and eye swelling/bubbles), as some drugs are better for mycoplasma (CRD) than coryza. This looks mild, and with treatment you might nip it in the bud. I would isolate her in a crate away from the others until her symptoms are gone.

Thank you so much, Eggcessive! We will separate her immediately. We don't see any symptoms as of yet. Where can the medication be found to purchase? We are in a rural setting, the nearest city is hours away.

I doubt that it would be a sting--there are many pictures here on BYC just like this if you do a search on respiratory diseases. Tylan 50 injection for shots or Tylan soluble powder, Gallimycin (erytromycin), Terramycin(oxytetracycline), or Duramycin10 should be available in most farm stores. Tylan 50 can be given as a shot for 3 days or carefully so as not to choke, orally for 5 days.

I have a hen that has the same since we have her and it never relly bothered her in any way with her health ,but it would be interesting to know what it really is because it never disappeared

Does it feel hard or soft? My guess is it is a cyst. It could be from a peck wound.
