Hi all. We are having a heat wave in California with temperatures above 100 degrees. Yesterday the coolest I could keep the ambian temperature I could keep my house and therefore the brooder was 98 degrees for most of the day. The chicken coop was over 110 so that is not an option. Obviously I turned the heat lamp off. But what else can I do for my 2 and 3 week old chicks?

There were very hot yesterday. So I was thinking of throwing some ice backs or something in the brooder.

Ice packs sitting in front of a fan aimed into the brooder would provide better cooling than just the packs alone.

I am hoping others chime in too. I never had chicks in the hot temps you are getting.

I've used 2-liter bottles of ice, and just toss one or two into the brooder area. I've found the chicks hover close to them when they need to cool off, just like they'll seek out the heat source when they need to warm up. And any fan you can use to pull heat out from the top or pull cooler air in lower, will help.
This is what I think I'm going to do
